What This Won't Do

Most shower filters are sold as a fix for hard water. Ours is not, and neither is anyone else's, whatever the packaging says. Here is the honest version, in one place, before you spend anything.

It will not soften your water

No shower filter softens water. Softening means taking calcium and magnesium out, and that needs ion exchange with a brine cycle. It is a plumbed-in appliance that sits on your main line.

There is a real standard for this. NSF/ANSI 44 covers water softeners, and 313 products are certified to it. Every one of them is a plumbed-in ion exchange system. No shower filter has ever been certified to it, ours included.

If your water is hard, it will still be hard after our filter. Your kettle will still scale.

It will not remove limescale you already have

Scale already on your glass or your shower head has to be taken off with an acid cleaner. A filter sits upstream of it and cannot reach it. We sell a spot remover for that job, and we sell it separately because it is a different product doing a different thing.

It will not fully remove chloramine

Some US utilities disinfect with chloramine rather than free chlorine. Chloramine is harder to remove. Carbon works on it catalytically rather than by soaking it up, and doing that properly needs contact time of ten minutes or more. Water passes through a shower filter in about a second.

So if your utility uses chloramine, our filter reduces it only partly, and we will not put a number on that until we have tested for it. More than one in five Americans are on chloramine. Almost nobody in this industry mentions it.

Check your water first. If your utility uses chloramine, we would rather you knew before you ordered.

It will not fix a skin or hair condition

We are not going to tell you what this does for your skin or your hair. We sell a water filter. We have not run a clinical trial and we are not going to write as though we have.

Our customers say what they notice, and we publish what they say, including the ones who noticed nothing.

What it does do

It reduces free available chlorine. That is the only performance claim we make.
